The Beard and the Wolf

Once upon a time, on a snug hillside, lived a Mama Goat and her little Goatie. One bright morning, Mama Goat decided to visit the yummy grassy patch for the day, leaving Goatie safe at home.
 

Before she trotted off, Mama Goat said, "Be a good Goatie and don't open the door for anyone. Look for a fuzzy beard before you let anyone in. That's how you'll know it's me!" Goatie nodded, remembering his mama's words.
 

All alone, Goatie played for a while. Then, a sly Wolf came by. He had snooped on Mama Goat's talk and had a sneaky idea. He knocked on the door and said, "Little Goatie, open up! Your mama sent me to see how you're doing."
 

Goatie, smart and careful, peeked through a tiny hole in the door and squeaked, "But I don't see any beard! Mama Goat said no opening the door for anyone without a beard!"
 

Surprised, the Wolf knew his trick wouldn't work. Goatie was safe because he listened to his mama's wise advice. When Mama Goat came home later, she was overjoyed to find Goatie safe and sound. Even when she was away, her smart words had kept him safe!
